About The Neighborhood

The Chicago Loop is located just West of Lake Michigan.   The Chicago Loop area is the main government head quarters for Chicago and Cook County.  The Loop is one of Chicago’s largest commercial districts, with numerous shops located on State Street.  In addition, there are more upscale shopping centers located at the  “Magnificent Mile,” on Michigan Avenue. This neighborhood is also a historic theater district, as it is home to the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, the Lyric Opera of Chicago, The Goodman Theatre, and Joffrey Ballet.  The Art Institute of Chicago, also located in the Loop, is one of the largest art museums in the United States.   The Loop is also home to the Willis Tower, the world’s tallest office building.

The Chicago loop is also home to both Grant and Millennium Parks.  Every year Grant Park is the host for Lollapalooza, a music festival started in the mid-1990s, boasting  some of the biggest acts around.  Millennium Park is home to the “Bean” and other notable works of Architecture.  From the loop you can hop on the “L” train and be anywhere in the city of Chicago in less than 30 minutes.

The Loop is also well known for its architecture.  Although it was demolished in 1931, the Loop was home to the Home Insurance Building which was known as the first skyscraper.  In addition, the Willis Tower (previously known as the Sears Tower) is the tallest building in North America.  It is also a popular tourist attraction.   The Chicago Board of Trade, a Chicago and National Landmark, is also located in the Loop.
