Aurora was established in 1837. Aurora means ‘goddess of the dawn.’ Aurora was the first city in the United States to use electricity to light the entire city. This is how Aurora became known as ‘The City of Lights.’ Now Aurora is the second largest city in the state of Illinois. The hit 1992 movie, Wayne’s World, and its sequel, was based in Aurora. Aurora is home to The Paramount Theatre, which has recently been named one of the Top Ten Theatres in Chicago by the League of Chicago Theatres.
